I had the privilege last week of being able to watch Evan Ducharme’s Fall/Winter collection debut, Belladonna, at Eco Fashion week. Perhaps you remember?
Well I haven’t brought it up since because I didn’t take any pictures because I didn’t want to miss anything or have my phone out. Plus there were a couple dozen photographers at the end of the runway taking the best pictures from the best angle anyway.
So I waited until those pictures were out so I could show you.
So now, without bias (as Evan is a good friend of mine) and without comparing his collection to the others showing at Eco Fashion Week, I can honestly say that Belladonna is truly a beautiful, glamourous, sophisticated yet sexy collection of very feminine pieces for women who want to feel strong, fierce, gorgeous. The story is cohesive and striking, the pieces are well structured and well-finished, everything looks elegant and expensive. For example, two of my favourite looks are a couple well designed, well-tailored dresses that made the super skinny models wearing them have lovely, sexy curves; you could see in their faces and how they walked that they felt like a million bucks. And how could you not? I felt like a million bucks just looking at them.
I will let the collection speak for itself and you can decide which look you like the best but I will say that, Evan, I am so effing proud of you for this show and everything you’ve given towards it. You are truly a talent and your passion for what we do is inspiring. I am inspired by you. If you ever need a seamstress/patternmaker/model (ha!)/girl to share a bottle of wine with, you know who to call (there are a few of us, as well you know).
Credit must also be given to the fabulously talented Rhyanna Gathright, also a friend and former classmate, who knit by hand the gorgeous tops and scarves in the collection. Soft, cozy and elegant, these pieces are a great deal of work to construct and my hat is off, once again, to you and your talent. They are lovely!
Congratulations, Evan!
Cheers.
